The collection consists of correspondence, photographs, and ephemera dated frin 1919 to 1963 and collected by the William Bruce Eidson family of Ways (or Richmond Hill), Bryan County, Georgia. The bulk of the collection consists of correspondence from William Bruce Eidson, Jr. to his parents from 1939 to1952 while he was a student at Georgia Tech, in the army, and a journalism student at the University of Georgia after the war. During his tenure in the army, Eidson washed out of the air corps, became a machinist, and in 1945 was part of the occupation troops in Japan. He was stationed in California (Santa Clara, Camp Cullen?, Camp Cooke, and Bakersfield), Arizona (Tucson and Phoenix), New York, Mississippi (Camp Shelby), and Virginia (Camp Pickett). Also of note is a body of correspondence from William, Sr. to his wife, Ethel Morris Eidson, while he worked away from home. The letters range from those written early in their marriage, to a stint in the Civilian Conservation Corps in Jesup, Georgia, and finally while he worked for the army in 1952, mostly at Fort Benning. The collection also includes photographs sent by William, Jr. of himself and a few scenes of army life as well as a small group of ephemera including a newspaper clipping and greeting cards.
