Food and gardening subject files reflect Thompson's career as a writer and columnist on these subjects.Writings consist mainly of manuscripts, drafts, research and miscellaneous notes; also included are diaries, poems, miscellaneous items, and a music score. Daniel Varney Thompson's personal and professional writings include two diaries, poems, and student writings. Most of his extant writings are on art-related topics, science and technology. Among the notes is an index to medieval manuscripts on craftsmanship in major European libraries was compiled by Thompson in 1935. His work on the subject remains unpublished and his notes are extremely valuable since some of the materials noted were lost in World War II. Scientific and technical notebooks, along with various wirings and reports, document projects undertaken as a technical consultant and engineer. The food and gardening writings are extensive and consist of manuscripts and notes for articles and columns, and for a book-length compilation of these writings. Among the writings by other authors are diaries of his mother and wife, and a music score by his brother, Randall Thompson.Artwork by Daniel Varney Thompson, Mary Sargent McKean, and Henry Winslow consists of drawings, prints, watercolors, a sketchbook, and an oil painting. Printed material includes articles and book reviews by Daniel Varney Thompson, and items about or mentioning him and his family. Also found are articles and books about art, history, medieval studies, science and technology, and food and gardening topics.Photographs are of artwork, people, places and miscellaneous subjects. Images of people are mainly Thompson and family members.

Title: Correspondence with Bernard Berenson, 1952-1960.

Ethel Le Vane met Bernard Berenson when she accompanied J. Paul Getty to I Tatti in the course of collaborating with him on Collector's Choice (London 1955) and generally assisting him in art acquisitions. The collection consists of handwritten and typewritten letters recording the romance that ensued between the 87-year-old Berenson and the middle-aged Le Vane, who address each other as "Mountain Goat" and "Kitten." These love letters also offer a behind-the-scenes view of how Getty's art collection was assembled, and the role Berenson played as authenticator, largely through Le Vane's interventions. A number of letters detail Getty's "pathology" from Le Vane's point of view, especially after the book's publication, when she finds Getty's recompense inadequate. After 1956, Berenson's secretary Nicky Mariano increasingly takes on the role of responding to Le Vane's missives.

The collection consists of correspondence, composed largely of incoming letters to Kenneth Clark and his wife, Jane, with occasional typescript carbon copies of Clark's response, and partial diary from 1934. It also includes one group of letters from Clark to his biographer, Meryle Secrest, who originally compiled these papers. Although the letters span from 1923 to 1983, the bulk covers the years between 1923 and 1950, documenting the period in Clark's life when he began to develop his skills as an art historian, and make his mark on the art world.

The bulk of the collection consists of personal papers, material related to Roberto Papini's activity as an architectural historian and as a professor at the University of Architecture in Florence. The other significant part is his correspondence. This section, arranged alphabetically by sender, reflects the wide range of contacts Papin held with architects and artists during the Fascist period and the 1950s. The collection also includes papers regarding Roberto Papini's second wife, the Hungarian-born sculptor Livia de Kuzmik. This smaller section includes some material related to her activity as a sculptor, and personal correspondence chiefly from her relatives from Hungary. Finally, it also includes a portfolio of 49 drawings, mainly studies of male and female nude models, and some preparatory studies for unidentified sculptures. Series I, Roberto Papini Paper, has three subseries: 1. Biographical 2. Writings and Professional 3. Correspondence. Subseries 2. includes published and unpublished writings as well as bibliographical material (notes, clippings, and material related to various projects such as conferences, exhibitions, art contests). One folder contains drawings by the painter Alessandro Milesi sent to Roberto Papini as director of the Galleria d'Arte Moderna, including a portrait of Roberto Papini by Milesi. Finally there are 568 photographs and non photographic material such as clippings, cards and reproductions. Subseries 3. Correspondence, is arranged alphabetically by correspondent and consists of letters from a wide range of Italian architects, artists, and intellectuals active between the 1920s and the 1950s. It also includes drafts of letters to and from Bernard and Mary Berenson, Alda Anrep, Nicky Mariano, and other personalities whose papers or photographs are kept at Villa I Tatti such as Giorgio Castelfranco, Kenneth Clark, Frederick Hartt, Giannino Marchig, and Giuseppe Marchini. Series II., Livia de Kuzmik Papini Papers, is divided into two subseries: 1. Artistic activity documents her work as a sculptor and includes papers dating between 1938 and 1948 on the war memorial monument in Campione d'Italia as well as 49 drawings and sketches documenting different stages of her sculptorial work. Subseries 2. Correspondence, contains personal letters to her from Roberto Papini and from variours members of her family.
