Record group 97-296 consists of records and photographs of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources Parks Division (and its predecessor, the Department of Conservation). The records consist of Ludington State Park textual materials for the years 1936-1995 (bulk of material is 1936-1963). Contains a variety of materials designed to inform the public about Ludington State Park. The brochures contain information about the trails, facilities, and natural features of the park. The histories explain the geological and cultural history of Ludington and the surrounding area. The newsletters list the people who visited the park that week. The photographs in the record group date from 1913-1965 (bulk of photographs date 1935-1940). These are mostly black and white prints with a few color postcards. Most of the photographs document the development of the park during the 1930's. Many of the photos. were donated by John M. Finnegan and Gwen Gwinn. The Civilian Conservation Corps photos depict life and work at Camp Ludington-Pere Marquette. There is a photo of P.F. Hoffmaster with his wife. The photos. dated 1913 are steriographic views from the area.
