Title: Flask [realia] : American Eagle Flask 1857-1867

The obverse side of this half-pint glass flask features a small eagle with a long neck and comb-like wings. The wings spread downward parallel to the eagle's body with tips that are curved inward. The wings also have nine ribs and sharp ends forming their inner side. On the eagle's breast is a long shield with a shallow curved v-top, five vertical bars, and no bottom line. The eagle has thin, tapered legs and a thunderbolt (three arrows) in each talon. A thin pennant stretches in a shallow arc from the eagle's beak to the left above the eagle. Below the eagle is a large oval frame (narrow molding) about 3.4 x 4.2 cm, with inscription "C & I" (denotes Cunningham & Ihmsen). The reverse side of the flask is similar but with eleven ribs in the left wing, nine ribs in the right wing, and a broader shield. The flask has a long body with smooth edges spreading slightly to a long curving shoulder. The neck is long and narrow with a single rounded collar. The base seam is a continuous line across the bottom, which forms a semicircle around the smooth concave center.
