Extensive records on the operation of the resort include deeds and property records; guest registers; employee records, reports, and correspondence; financial records including Ledger E with detailed entries on expenses incurred for construction, boats, farm operations, employees, food supplies, equipment, and other operations, 1882-1951, and inventories, 1890-1938; records from day-to-day operations of the Mountain House such as laundry, staging (livery), telephone, purchasing department, dining room, Picnic Lodge, and rooms; minutes, reports, and other records of the corporate body, Smiley Brothers, Inc.; and business correspondence of Albert K. and Alfred H. Smiley, their half-brother Daniel Smiley (1855-1930), and other family members involved in the business, 1869-present, with some family and personal information included; many of the earlier letters offer a detailed picture of life at Mohonk.

Papers of Alfred F. Smiley and the company E.A. & G.H. Smiley of Minnewaska, Ulster County, New York, including bills, receipts and business correspondence pertaining to the operation of several businesses including the Minnewaska Garage and the Power House in Kerhankson, N.Y., as well as hotels Wildmere House, Cliff House and Lake Minnewaska Mountain House. Much of the correspondence pertains to orders for oil, gasoline, tires, pumps, pipes and electrical equipment, including extensive correspondence with Harry T. Crissy of Albany, N.Y., a distributor of electrical equipment and a personal friend of Alfred F. Smiley. There are also letters from publishers of hotel guide books, correspondence with employees of job applicants about work as teamsters, truck drivers or bell boys; and correspondence about livery stables, auto licenses, insurance, and purchases of hay and straw.

Letters to the manager of the Lake Mohonk Mountain House hotel in Mohonk Lake, N.Y., from guests at a number of Massachusetts resort hotels arranging visits. The hotel stationery features illustrations of the hotels, including The Oceanside (Magnolia), Parker House (New Bedford), The Elms (Plymouth), The Northfield (Northfield), The Rock-Mere (Marblehead), Turk's Head Inn (Rockport) and New Ocean House (Swampscott). With two postcards from Northfield and a brochure from the New Magnolia hotel.

Writing on letterhead of the C.A. Edgarton Manufacturing Co., Anderson asks Smiley to send one of his 1906 booklets to Mr. Geo. J. Harrison, Freeport, L.I. The letterhead indicates that the company, incorporated in 1892, is the "only elastic fabric factory in the world finishing its entire product into suspenders" and that it is the sole selling agents of Knickerbocker Suspender Co. Letterhead has illustrations of the "President Suspender" and the "Ball Bearing Garter."
