Many of these mounted and unmounted photographic prints, postcards, and offprints from State Museum publications were collected by Winifred Goldring, Assistant in Paleontology (1914), Assistant Paleontologist (1915-1920), Associate Paleontologist (1920-1925, 1928-1932), Paleobotanist (1925-1928), Assistant State Paleontologist (1932-1938) and State Paleontologist (1938-1954). These pictures depict geologic formations, fossil specimens, restorations of specimens and habitats, enlargements of map sections, and portraits of geologists and paleontologists.

This series contains correspondence, memoranda, and occasional reports of the state geologist, assistant state geologist, and occasionally other members of the geological staff. During the period 1904 to 1925, the state geologist also held the positions of state paleontologist and museum director. This series contains correspondence of the assistant state geologist for those years, and primarily of the state geologist thereafter.
