Correspondence between the two partnerships regarding "rafting" of timber down the Allegheny River. All hand-written on plain blue or white paper, except one on Bradner Warren & Co. letterhead from Geo. C. Smith regarding a payment. Dated Sept. 12, 1948 through Aug. 1, 1856 and sent from Covington, New York City, Rochester, Buffalo, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Warren County, Pa., and the Madison House, Cincinnati, Ohio. Most written by B.L. Ball to Bradner & Hartman, regarding river conditions, e.g. "Every thing is froze up here" (Cf. letter, Dec. 8, 1854), bills, and payments received, or not, e.g. "I know that you want your money and ought to have had it long ago" (Cf. letter, July 1856). Also includes a few family letters. Ball generally signed off with "yours on the [square]", drawing a square above his name.
