ALS, reporting results of Raspe's investigation of minerals found on Dempsters's estates at Skibo and [Polrossie?], Sutherland, Scotland. Raspe describes the presence or lack of specific minerals and possibilities for mining, and he recommends medicinal use of mineral waters found "under [Polrossie?] House." Bound in are an ALS from Dempster, Knightsbridge, 1789 May 7, to Francis Humberston Mackenzie, introducing Raspe; and a printed biographical article on Raspe from Book of Days, by Robert Chambers. ALS from Raspe to "Dear Sir," possibly Dempster, regarding accommodation during his confinement and mentioning his catalogue for James Tassie, n.d., mounted on sheet, is laid in. Brief notes in an unidentified hand appear on items.
