Title: Edward Fenwicke letterbook, 1723-1728.

Bound volume containing copies of business and personal letters (1723-1728) of Edward Fenwicke, as well as notes, memoranda, accounts, and other items. Personal letters are to Fenwicke's mother, his brother John (Jack) Fenwicke in South Carolina (including a letter of July 8, 1727 in which provides details about his estate, discusses the education of John's children in England, and notes that the fall of stocks and decline of business had forced him to change his will and withdraw the large legacy he had left John's children), and other relatives and friends concerning family and business matters. Business letters are to other merchants including Francis Salvador, Sr. and Francis Salvador, Jr. and to clients and associates in England, India, Barbados, and Spain. Commodities discussed include diamonds, gold thread, and rice. Letters also mention selling stock. A letter (1724 Feb. 24) to William Phipps, governor at Bombay, discusses the state of affairs in England and in Europe, the English East India Company, trade with India, and mutual friends. Volume includes a number of letters from Edward Fenwicke at London to Philip Moniconi (London merchant), memoranda, abstracts of correspondence (1715-1717) of Robert Fenwicke of Cadiz and Philip Moniconi a merchant in London (p. 311-314), and a complaint filed by Edward Fenwicke (executor for his brother Robert's estate) against Moniconi for payments for oil and wine owed to Robert Fenwicke. Accounts include Charles Chambers's accounts of "South Sea Stock" and of "South Sea Annuitys."
