The papers present a fairly good overview of Katherine Burgum's activities from 1959 through 1999. The personal materials series (1964-1996) includes personal calendars from 1965, 1983, 1984 and 1986, correspondence and notes and cards. The awards/honors series (1971-1997) consists of awards and honors that were presented to Burgum. The community/business activity seriss (1951-1998) focuses on some of her business pursuits and the various local, regional and national organizations in which she was involved. The political series (1960-1996) deals primarily with her activities when she was the Republican National Committeewoman from North Dakota (1968-1972). The NDSU and College of Home Economics series (1971-1993) focuses on her activities as Dean of the College of Home Economics (1972-1980). The American Home Economics Association series (1977-1989) centers around her involvment as a Board of Trustee member, chair of the Foundation grants/corporate giving committee, and a fund developer consultant. The NDSU Development Foundation series is the most indepth series, and concerns Burgum's association with the foundation from its inception in 1971 until 1998, including as president from 1980 to 1983. The series is broken down into the following sub-series: historical background (1971-1989), Board of Trustees (1971-1999), Board of Directors (1971-1999), Executive Committee (1971-1999), corresondence (1981-1998), financial statements (1976-1981), development/alumni joint meetings (1982, 1995), 'SU 75' (1970-1973) and committees (1979-1998). The talks series (1959-1993) is of particular interest because of the diversity of her talks, aswell as the fact that much of the information is handwritten drafts from which the talks were given. The publications series consists of two of her publications while at Wayne State University. The small photography series (ca. 1970-1990) consists primarily of her community and business activities, her university affiliations, and her political activities.

Letter containing a brief biography and mentioning some of his compositions including his opera "Coventry nativity", "Cantata of prophecy" which was written for Lutheran Seminary, Saint Paul, Minn., Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Orchestra program for April 8, 1956, where his "Symphonie a breve" was performed, and a newspaper clipping.
