Collection of transcripts and notes relating to the history of Mexico during Spanish rule, under the following topics: chronological list of rulers of New Spain between 1521 and 1789, and summaries of events during the same period, compiled by Diego García Panes y Avellán, ca. 1791; reports on 16th and 17th century expeditions for the conquest, colonization, and conversion of Sinaloa, Sonora, and California, transcribed from the Mexican archives, 1847; the eight closing chapters from Motolinía's account of the martyrdom of three Tlaxcalan child converts, apparently a translation into Spanish of the 1601 Náhuatl translation made by the Franciscan, Juan Bautista; (Cont.) notes by Ramírez on various aspects of Mexico City and its environs from the 16th to the 18th centuries, with particular attention to the Huehuetoca Canal and to certain religious orders; clause from the will of Vasco de Quiroga, January 24, 1565, and news concerning his defense and acquittal on charges connected with the construction of a hospital; account compiled by José Díaz de la Vega, a Franciscan, concerning bestowal of the title of "captain general" and other honors on the 16th century Chichimeca chieftain, Juan Bautista Valerio de la Cruz; miscellaneous notes, 16th to 18th centuries, compiled by Ramírez, including such sources as Juan Mateo Mange and the Jesuit, Luis Velarde.

In this copy, Part I is called "Varias piezas del Orden Real," Part II, "Memorias de Mexico," and Part III, "Memorias Piadosas de la Nacion Indiana." Part I contains Sigüenza y Góngora's treatise on princely virtues (1680), Motolinía's story of three Tlaxcalan child martyrs (1791), and Father Zárate Salmerón's essay on the history of New Mexico and other regions, 1538-1626, "Relación de todas las cosas que en el Nuevo Megico se han visto," follwed by a letter (1778) from Father Vélez de Escalante to Morfi on the same subject. Part II, ca. 1654 to 1764, consists of reports and papers of Baltasar de Medina, Andrés de Rivas, Isidro Sariñana, Julián Gutiérrez Dávila, and others, relating primarily to the work of various religious orders in New Spain and the Philippines, and to drainage of the Mexico City area, with two maps of the City, one in color, ca. 1618. Part III deals with the Indians of New Spain, particularly from the religious standpoint, gives biographies of some outstanding Indians and accounts of miraculous apparitions seen by natives, such as the Virgin of Guadalupe. Compiled in 1782 by José Díaz de la Vega, a Franciscan.
