This collection consists of the papers of Henry C. Metcalfe and Thomas Metcalfe, dated 1852-1888. One document is a land grant, given to Thomas Metcalfe for service in the War of 1812, approved and signed by President Millard Fillmore Oct. 1, 1852. Another is a letter from Confederate Colonel J.S. Scott demanding the unconditional surrender of Richmond, Kentucky, by federal forces, Aug. 23, 1862. A certificate appointing Henry C. Metcalfe postmaster of Carlisle, Kentucky, was signed by Grover Cleveland Feb. 21, 1888.

Toler & Co., New York (as a clerk), Ingersoll and Colles, Rogers and Colles, and to his tenure as a director of a branch of the Bank of the United States in New Orleans, Louisiana.

There were other editions published in 1889, 1898, 1899, 1924, 1929, etc.
