George Murray, wagon maker, was a son of the tanner Levi Murray, and father of William A. Murray, Esq., a member of the House of Representatives from 1880 to 1881. George Murray died in 1878 at the age of 87. "Baileyville" was a village in Ferguson Township, ten miles west of State College, near Pennsylvania Furnace. In 1812, the village had a flour and grist mill operated by John Bailey. Houserville is named for Jacob Houser who came to Spring Creek in 1788. In 1883, the village consisted of a dozen houses, a blacksmith shop, a store, wagon shop, flour mill, woolen factory, a schoolhouse and two churches.

Title: Houserville Store daybooks, 1816-1832, 1879-1887.

The Houserville Store Daybooks (1816-1832, 1879-1887) consist of two daybooks. The first dated 1816-1832, belonging to George Murray, contains an inscription "W.A. Murray, October 1812," below which is the notation, "George Murray, his day book." General store entries are arranged by full name, date of purchase, item purchased and amount paid or owed. The second book which purportedly belonged to Luther Murray includes general store entries for the period 1879 to 1887. The book is headed "Houserville" for the period 1879 to 1883. Circa 1886 to 1887 [pages removed], the store entries are headed "Baileyville." Inside the front cover, there are genealogical notations by Nan Houser Thompson, dated August 1946.
