Edward Clymer, a descendant of Declaration of Independence signer George Clymer, was a native of Berks County, Pennsylvania.

George B. Chittenden was a topographer with the U.S. Geological and Geographical Survey of the Territories, who worked on surveys in Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho. Mount Chittenden in Yellowstone Park was named for him by Henry Gannett of the Hayden Geological Survey of 1878.

Dr. Frederic M. Endlich, a naturalist, geologist, and mining engineer, held a Doctor of Natural Sciences degree from the University of Tübingen in Germany. He specialized in mineralogy and studied geology throughout New Mexico, California, and Arizona. He committed suicide in Tucson in 1899.

Title: Account book and recipe book : manuscript, 1788-1854.

Begins as receipt book of Daniel Clymer (probably Daniel Cunyngham Clymer) lawyer in Berks County, Pa. with receipts dated 1788-1798 and bearing the signatures of Jacob Harvey, Anna Gibson, John Jennings, John Pierce, John D. Coxe, Morris Shipley, Mary Head, John Hart, Sarah Moore, and Daniel Rafe, among others (4 leaves). Volume continues in other hands, predominantly that of M. Clymer with entries dated ca. 1823-1846. Many of these entries are accounts of wages paid to workers for spinning wool and flax, also for farm labor, e.g. butchering, and accounts for farm commodities including grain, butter, eggs, candles, etc.

Title: Journal of an expedition in the Wyoming Territory, 1877, May-December.

Journal kept by Edward Clymer during his 1877 expedition to the Wyoming Territory with George B. Chittenden and Dr. F.M. Endlich. Provides an account of Clymer's westward travels by railroad and his arrival in Cheyenne in late May 1877. The diary subsequently traces the small expedition's movements in and around Salt Wells, Pacific Creek, Fort Stambaugh, the Sweetwater River, Rawlins, and Strawberry Creek. During this time they climbed Fremont Peak, shot mountain goats, encountered a grizzly bear, participated in a buffalo hunt, and discovered Indian relics. The diary also records Clymer's trip through Salt Lake City and return to Pennsylvania in September 1877, as well as entries from his life in Berks County through December 1877 (there are no entries for October).
