Native of Reno, Nevada. Her parents were Wayne and Mary Bernice Hood Cutlip, operators of the Pyramid Lake Guest Ranch, Nevada, in the late 1930s. Wayne was also a ranch hand, caretaker, rodeo rider, and wrangler for western movies. The guest ranch frequently hosted those seeking Nevada residency for the purpose of obtaining a divorce.
