Title: The Hot Springs of Arkansas: Hot Springs, Arkansas, 1860 Mar 20.

Holograph manuscript describing the location, history and therapeutic use of the Arkansas Hot Springs, approximately fifty miles west of Little Rock. The manuscript includes descriptions of the baths and guest accommodations, the treatment process, and analyses of the water by William Glasgow, Dr. E. H. Larkin of St. Louis, and Dr. G. W. Lawrence of Baltimore. In a cover letter to Harper and Brothers, Coy explains that due to family illnesses he has come to the Hot Springs from Independence, Missouri. As a subscriber to Harper's Magazine he believes that a description of the Springs would be of interest to readers. Coy wrote pages five and six on letterhead containing a lithograph depicting a dressing room, douche and tub bath, and vapor room. His sketch of an "Invalid's Room," showing a guest wrapped in blankets following a treatment and a chair used to carry guests from the bath, appears at the top of the letter. A sketch of a Mr. Greiz mentioned by Coy in his letter is not present.
