Scrapbooks of allusions to Shakespeare, compiled by J.O. Halliwell-Phillipps for the Earl of Warwick, containing mostly print material, mostly cuttings from 17th century plays, also includes original manuscripts, a few tracings of documents, forgeries, some illustrations removed from books and some music. Volumes 1 and 2 are all print material. Volume 3 is also all print except for one Collier transcript about John Shakespeare (leaf 30). Volume 4 along with some print material contains 2 bills, one for funeral expenses, from the 1730s. Five transcripts in Ireland's hand of his own forgeries of Shakespeare can be found at the end of volume 4 and the beginning of volume 5. Volume 5 also includes a facsimile/tracing of D. Forman's manuscript in the Ashmolean Museum, as well as more print material. Volume 6 contains all print material some with notes said to be by Philip, Earl of Pembroke, but have been identified as those of Baron Stanhope of Harrington. Volume 4 also contains illustrations, including woodcuts of soldier's holding arms from Gheyn's The Exercise of Armes, 1619 (STC 11812) and woodcuts from Geiler's Nauicula siue speculum fatuorum. Volumes 4 and 6 also contain two different songs sung by Mrs. Dyer from Purcell's opera The Faiery Queen.

Gives his reason for believing contrary to "Lee and the rest" that Shakespeare's father could write. [3] 1914, January 18 [3 p.].--States problems connected with the William Drummond books and manuscripts. Comments on Professor Raleigh as a lecturer and on his book about Shakespeare. States that someone should write about Sir John Harrington. [4] 1914, March 9, [1 l.].--He discusses books published at the Shakespeare Head Press. Comments on the Shakespearian criticism of Mrs. Charlotte Stopes. [5] 1915, January 29 [2 l.].--He discusses the distribution of an edition of Aphra Behn's works recently published by the Shakespeare Head Press. Expresses sympathy for Bertram Dobell and Robert Grant Martin. [6] 1915, April 6 [1 l.].--He discusses orders for the Shakespeare Head Press edition of Aphra Behn's works. Comments on Robert Grant Martin. [7] 1916, April 15 [2 p.].--Sends a photograph. States that people use to mistake him for Mark Twain. He does not feel qualified to answer Sherman's inquiry about the staging of Shakespearean plays. [8] 1917, February 4 [2 p.].--He sends Sherman a pamphlet of verses. He discusses Simon Forman and says "Nobody, so far as I know, has examined his Ms. collection." [9] 1917, November 8 [2 p.].--He discusses his friend, George Gissing and sends Sherman a note written by Gissing. [10] 1918, November 26 [2 p.].--He agrees that Stratford should be made a world center for Elizabethan studies, and says he hopes that after the conclusion of the war funds will be available for this project.
