These audio cassette tape recordings record a full day program of lectures in honor of the scientific contributions of geophysicists Russell Raitt and Victor Vacquier held at Sumner Auditorium of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UCSD on October 13, 1992. The program was divided into two sessions organized by George Shor and John Sclater. The morning program was introduced by SIO Director Emeritus William A. Nierenberg and included remarks by Cecil Green on Geophysical Service Inc. and on Victor Vacquier. J. Tuzo Wilson discussed his family history and his own education and the relationship of geophysics to geology and physics. Jean Francheteau spoke on Victor Vacquier's contributions to the problem of magnetic lineations and seamounts. Christopher G. Harrison discussed Victor Vacquier's early papers, magnetometer development and current interpretation of magnetics. John Sclater discussed Victor Vacquier's career at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography and his work on heat flow. Fred Spiess was the concluding speaker, followed by remarks by Victor Vacquier. The afternoon session included lectures by Sir Anthony Laughton, Robert L. Fisher, Don Helmberger, and Dan MacKenzie with concluding remarks by George Shor.
