Animal Nutritionist. Dr. Kriss began his work at Pennsylvania State College in the Institute of Animal Nutrition and served as Professor of Animal Nutrition (1936-1941). The collection centers on his research including energy metabolism of farm animals, fundamentals of stable ventilation, feeding standards for dairy cows, and specific dynamic effects of nutrients. Author of more than 50 papers dealing with animal nutrition which were presented in numerous agriculture journals. Dr. Kriss' doctoral research and journal article drafts are featured in the collection along with his laboratory notebooks and both personal and professional correspondence. A subgroup of Joseph P. Kriss' (son of Max Kriss) class notes and watercolor paintings are included in this collection. Correspondents include F. G. Benedict, W. H. Chambers, J. R. Murlin, A. H. Smith, and the American Society of Animal Science.
