Letters to and from Annie McClendon comprise the bulk of the McClendon family papers. The letters from 1902 and 1903 are between Annie and the Woman's Board of Foreign Missions of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. They primarily concern the financial needs of Annie's mission. Correspondence from later years consists mainly of more personal letters received by Annie. Many of these are from Mrs. W. B. (Mollie) Higgenbotham, President of the North Georgia Conference Woman's Missionary Society. Also included in the collection is a letter from James W. McClendon, Annie's son. The letter was written to one of his siblings and contains his recollection of his mother' mission work. There is also another document containing descriptions of Annie's work. It appears to be in James's hand, but contains numerous quotations from an unknown source. Other items include a page of McClendon family genealogical information transcribed from gravestones in Pinewood Cemetery (West Point, Georgia); a page from an unidentified publication with a photographic portrait of Annie; a printed notice in Spanish by Annie from her Guadalajara mission school, dated 1910; and a 1962 history of West Point First Methodist Church. This history mentions both James H. McClendon's role in founding the church and Annie's mission work.

This series consists of records from individual charges located in the North Georgia Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South (M.E.C.S.). A charge is the basic unit of the denomination and may include one or more local churches, all served by the same pastor. Charges composed of more than one church are sometimes referred to as "circuits". Prior to 1968 each charge was required to meet on a quarterly basis and submit reports to the district superintendent, who presided over the meetings. This series consists of records from individual charges located in the North Georgia Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South (M.E.C.S.). Reports from these Quarterly conferences comprise the bulk of the series and include records from the Cobb circuit (1883-1910); Covington circuit (1835-1852); Gainesville circuit (1834-1853); Grantville circuit (1869-1877); Louisville circuit (1836-1864); Marietta circuit (1916-1938); Baldwin and Milledgeville circuit (1883-1952); North Covington and Mills charge (1913-1915); Oxford charge (1911-1914); Oxford and Midway charge (1903-1906); and Trinity charge in the South Atlanta district (1887-1890). These records contain lists of persons in attendance at each conference, reports from the pastor and all committees, financial and statistical reports from each church, lists of persons elected to the various offices and committees, and reports of any additional business conducted at the conference. Records of the Oxford charge also include church registers (1871-1911) listing church memberships, baptisms, marriages and deaths, as well as records from two organizations that existed within the charge. The Helping Hands Juvenile Society minutes (1880-1889) and treasurer's books (186[?]-1885) provide information about this youth organization which performed various local service projects and raised money for the support of foreign misionaries. The Woman's Missionary Society treasurer's book (1878-1911) records the dues paid by each member and the amounts paid by the society in support of several mission projects. The Sparta Sunday School record book (1825-1827) gives an account of the week-to-week operation of a Sunday School that provided basic education and spiritual guidance to children who received no other form of instruction during the week. The record book of the Epworth League of Decatur First Methodist (1923) contains names and addresses of members, meeting minutes, and other information about the organization. The Epworth League was formed in 1890 to provide additional church-related activities for youth. Also included is a church register (1885-1923) from the Antioch M.E.C.S. (Marietta district) and the 1910 Pastor's Report to the Annual Conference for the Broad River Charge.

This collection consists of records created by various organizations that existed on the district level of the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church, as well as the preceding denominations, the Methodist Episcopal Church (M.E.C.), the Methodist Episcopal Church, South (M.E.C., S.), and the Methodist Church. The majority of the collection consists of charge conference records maintained at the district level, with the bulk dating from 1960 to 1990. Additional material includes account ledgers, committee reports, correspondence, general office files, loose photographs and albums, and scrapbooks. The activities of women within the church are documented in this collection by the records of the Woman's Home Missionary Society and the Woman's Missionary Society, as well as the Woman's Christian Temperance Union. The records of the Oxford (1875-1931), South Atlanta (1878-1931), and North Atlanta (1924-1936) district level organizations of these societies contain information about foreign and domestic missionary work and the temperance movement. Of interest are the contents of the miscellaneous folder (1894-1931), which contains material concerning missions to Malay and the island of Sumatra, which is now part of the Republic of Indonesia. Researchers should be aware that district boundaries changed over time. Often a file contained records for an overlapping time period for a single church or charge. These records were not separated into different files. Instead, the records were filed with the newer district. Researchers are therefore advised look for records in both the former and current districts.
