A diary (1843) and letterpress books (1876, 1887-1888) pertaining to business and personal activities of Hewitt. Diary, entitled "Journal of a Pedestrian Tour to the White Mountains", kept while travelling with his friend Edward Cooper. The young men visited Boston, Newburyport, and Lowell, Massachusetts, and Newport, Rhode Island. He writes of his stay at Mrs. Murray's in Newport; his acquaintance with the De Rhams, Cottenets, Joseph Blunt, and others; and his visits to the cotton mills and the house of Timothy Dexter. This volume closes with his experiences in Newburyport so there is likely another volume which continues the journey to the White Mountains.
