Title: Cases and opinions of counsel, 1728-1780.

Contains copies of cases with the opinions of counsel, apparently of Nothumberland provenance, the bulk covering 1728-1770, with a few additions. On fo. 249 is a report of a case at Berkshire assizes, 1787, and a few more reports of cases in the 1780s taken from newspapers. Several counsel who transcribed the cases have attributed this effort with their signatures.

Contains reports of cases heard before the Bancus Regis (King's Bench) from Michaelmas term 1733 to Michaelmas term 1763. Written in at least two hands, most entries evidently by Christopher Fawcett, whose signature is at head of title page. Christopher Fawcett, a barrister, was admitted to Gray's Inn in November 1728 and called to the bar in February 1735; he practised law in Newcastle. Lord Hardwicke (Philip Yorke, Earl of Hardwicke), became chief justice of the King's Bench in 1733; he was lord chancellor from 1737-1756.
