Papers consist of Abraham's topical files from his research and teaching career, chiefly at the University of Virginia. The papers contain files on his graduate students; teaching material, particularly his course on Constitutional interpretation; research particularly on religion and the law, judicial independence, judicial selection, federalism and separation of powers, and the Supreme Court; and general topics including political correctness, disinvestment in South Africa, Kenyon College, the University of Virginia, the Virginia Council on Human Rights, the Virginia Bicentennial Commission, and the White Burkett Miller Center, The collection also contains a copy of his 1952 dissertation "Compulsary voting: its practice and theory"; photocopies and associated materials for "Freedom and the courts" and manuscripts and/or research material for several articles including "Attaining membership on the Court: facts and fantasies in the appointment process,""Carterizing the judiciary," "Constitutional and other definitions of religion: the contemporary scene," "Impact of religious-spiritual values on United States political and social dynamics," "Justices and presidents: some reflections on myths and truths informing the appointment process, " "Merit or Senority? The collection also contains manuscripts by colleagues sent to Abraham for review including "A Clinton court" and "Courting justice" by Seth Hamilton Kramer, "The Burger Court and separation of church and state" by Ronald Kahn, "The Supreme Court and the serpentine wall" by A. E. Dick Howard, and papers by Elliot E. Slotnick, The collection also contains correspondence with other judicial historians as well as with graduate students with whom he maintained contact after they left the University of Virginia. Correspondents include Lillian R. BeVier, Alan I. Bigel, Vincent Bonventre, Stephen Girard Bragaw, Steven P. Brown, Michael Comisky, Stanley A. Cook, Richard C. Cortner, David Fellman, James C.
