Collection of military and political documents bound by Sir Thomas Phillipps. Contents include 5 "demands for gunne stores," 1705-1707; a legal opinion in a defamation case against one Mary Clarke, who had failed to plead her coverture, signed by Thomas Luttrell, 1781 Feb 24; 4 documents related to the events of the Second Anglo-Mysore War (1781-1784), including "Translation of a letter from his Highness the Nabob to the King of Great Britain," concerning the invasion of the Carnatic; "Copy of a letter from Lord Macartney to His Highness the Nabob dated 9th October 1784;" "Representation of Mahomed Najeef Cawa Bahadur translated from the Persian;" and a translation of a letter apparently from Tippoo Ali to Lord Macartney, undated. These are followed by 3 printed facsimiles of letters by Lord Nelson and Christopher Columbus. Following these are a series of documents mostly relating to events and emigres of the French Revolution, including minutes of a meeting of the Huntingdonshire militia and magistrates, 1798, with an "Estimate for a Field Riding House" by George Spiller; letters, petitions for financial support and accompanying documentation from three French ,migr,s, the comtesse de Trogoff, the comte Mertrus St-Ouen, and Jacques Destouche, whose claim is countersigned and attested to by the Royalist "Prince Bouillon" (Admiral Philippe D'Auvergne), 1794-1795; and petitions addressed to French authorities, including one by the widow Jollivet in 1818, having lost her husband to exile after the coup of 18 Fructidor V and her son "dans les deserts de La Russie" in 1811-12 and one by Pierre Armand Nayne in 1816. Other documents in this section of the volume include a genealogical chart for the de Maurienne family; tallies of Spanish and Italian infantry at Newport and Ostend in June 1701; an account of disbursements to Edward Repington, Esq., for 1737-38; and two sheets headed "tat des migr,s Italiens...1826" and listing Italian refugees in London who receive subsidies from the "Comite Italien." Signed by P. Maenza, the sheets include last name, signature and local address of many refugees, including a Rossetti at 24 Duke Street, Lincoln's Inn Fields. The last 10 documents in the volume concern the efforts of Naval personnel to collect prize money for Spanish ships of war captured in 1781 in fighting off Gibraltar.
