Rawson, Samuel. Narrative of the wreck of the brig R̀apid' [manuscript].

Title: Narrative of the wreck of the brig R̀apid' [manuscript]. 1840.

Essay entitled: "Narrative of the wreck of the brig R̀apid'" and letter (dated 3rd Nov. 1975) from Bill Torrington to Nan Kivell. It appears (according to a Rowson descendant) that John Rawson of Stonyroyd, born 1774 had six sons, six daughters. One son John Rawson, was the father of Major Samuel about six months older than Major Samuel. This other Samuel, the author of MS 4279, is in Burke's Peerage as "Samuel Rawson of China." He set off from Sydney to China in the "Rapid", which was shipwrecked. See 402/4/663, letter 14 July 1986.

Typed manuscript with handwritten corrections of "The good country, Cranbourne shire", by Niel Gunson. The book was published in Melbourne in 1968 by Cheshire and is a history of Cranbourne shire, compiled at the request of the Cranbourne Shire Council. Early settlers mentioned include Henry George Haydon, William Lyall, Samuel Rawson, and William Thomas.

Journal of a voyage from England to Sydney on the Florentia. Journal of an expedition after some Van Diemen's blacks. Diary covering the years 1831-1841. Diary for years 1843-1845, contains journal of a voyage to England in the ship Thomas Coutts. Diary for years 1846-1847 contains notes on the voyage to India in the ship Ann. Notebook covering 1848-1857. Miscellaneous items include hotel bills, silk play bill, plan of the Florentia and Thomas Coutts and maps of Adelaide.
