The collection includes letters from Ernest, Ruth and Dafydd Llewellyn, William E. Dolphin, Sheina Ramsay, Roy Malan, Lionel Tertis, Jean Frere, Zlatko Balokovic, and Lady Evelyn Barbirolli. There are newspaper cuttings, a list of instruments crafted by Smith, drawings of the violin construction process by Dafydd Llewellyn, and letters relating to the sale of A. E. Smith's Quartet of Instruments to the Australian Government. Includes a transcript of a talk given by Smith on radio 2BL in June 1934, entitled 'The Romance of Violin Making'. Also includes photographs of Smith, his workshop and shopfront, family, and instruments. There are photos of A. E. Smith with Ruggerio Ricci; Lauri Kennedy; Roy Malan and Yehudi Menuhin.
