Of interest is a Confederate muster roll, taken from the 14th Regiment of the Tennessee Volunteers in 1862.

Civil War letters from John Bratton with the 6th South Carolina Regiment to his wife, Betty (DuBose) Bratton in and near Winnsboro, S.C. The letters describe army life at different camps in South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia; battles in which Bratton took part; and the behavior of slaves, both those who remained at home and those who accompanied their masters into the army. Letters of January and February 1865 advise Mrs. Bratton as to what she should do in the event the Yankees approach her home.

The collection consists of a microfilm copy of the typescripts of approximately 168 letters written between February 1861 and March 1865 by John Bratton to his wife Bettie. The first few letters were written before the war. The remainder were written during his service in the Civil War and reveal much of the man and of the attitudes of an upper class Southerner of the period.
