Son of Wm. and Ann (Wood) Henry was born, Nov. 4, 1758, in Lancaster, Pa.; at the age of 14 was apprenticed to uncle, a Kunsmith. In 1775 he clandestinely joined the Lancaster regiment, and engaged in Arnold's siege of Quebec. While in prison he contracted scurvy, and was lame throughout the remainder of his life. Studied law under his brother-in-law, Stephen Chambers, was admitted to the bar in 1785. and began to practice in 1793 when he was appointed president of the 2nd judicial dist. of Pa.. Illness caused his removal from office 17 years later. He died, Apr. 15, 1811. His history of the siege of Quebec is well known. (from Harris. Bio. Hist. Lancaster Co. , 275 ff) (blue index cards)

Title:

Getchell, Frank A. Henry's mistake : the mysterious Jeremiah, 2003 Aug. 9.
Title:
Henry's mistake : the mysterious Jeremiah, 2003 Aug. 9.
John Joseph Henry stated that the two guides in the Arnold Expedition were John Horn and Jeremiah Getchell. Frank Getchell (the author of this typescript) thinks that it was probably John Getchell and Jeremiah Horn. John Joseph Henry wrote "An accurate and interesting account of the hardships and sufferings of that band of heroes who traversed the wilderness in the campaign against Quebec in 1775" (written in 1812).
