Information on General Edward Settle Godfrey, Sr. include biographies, correspondence (1861-1936); commissions and discharge papers (1874-1906); West Point material, maps and clippings. Some items concern the battle of Scary Creek, West Virginia (July 17, 1861) but the largest part of the collection focus on his activities as historian and Indian fighter with information on the Sioux campaigns of 1876; the Washita campaign, the Nez Perce War and the Ghost Dance Uprising. Some material on histories of the Revolutionary War, the Civil War and World War I. Material on Edward S. Godfrey, Jr. includes: correspondence (1887-1960); numerous medical articles and speeches; autobiographies; West Point material and many clippings. His correspondence with his father especially that written during his service with the Red Cross during WWI have historical interest. Materials on Edward S. Godfrey III and McDonald Godfrey include correspondence (1918-1941); and some clippings about them. There is a clipping on the 139th Fighter Squadron of the New York Air National Guard in 1949.
