The collection contains 5 files of 'whites', ie copies of Jean Whyte's official letters and minutes during her employment with the National Library, with letters and minutes of A. P. Fleming, the National Librarian 1970-1973, and drafts of articles. Colour transparencies taken at Whyte's farewell from the National Library include Pauline Fanning, Dulcie Penfold, George Clark and Dr George Chandler (National Librarian 1974-1980). The collection also includes letters and poems of Donovan Clarke. An additional 7 boxes & 1 large envelope (c. 1.4 m.) received in July 02. This will be unavailable until processed.

The papers contain correspondence with Australian literary personalities e.g. Hugh McCrae, Vance and Nettie Palmer, R.G. Howarth, Judith Wright, James McAuley, Nancy Keesing and Peter Hopegood. There is also correspondence with David Maurice concerning Buddhism as well as Clarke's poems, short, stories, plays, published articles, 1952 CLF lectures, essays, and notes on poetry, material relating to his work as a tutor, photos, drawings and newscuttings.
