The G.W. Carver High School for the Sciences is designed to challenge each student to think independently and to be resourceful. Thus, our school enables students to commence the training process to prepare them to be literate citizen-leaders and to pursue higher level education to meet the demands of our society through successful interdisciplinary approaches.

G. W. Carver High School for the Sciences provides students with an in-depth, well rounded and thorough college preparatory education with an emphasis on science and mathematics. At all levels of training, classroom teaching and learning are complemented with authentic, inquiry-based research experiences. The combined research and teaching experiences prepare students to become critical thinkers and problem solvers and enable them to pursue careers in biological sciences (related to medicine and health), physical sciences (chemistry, physics, environmental and material sciences), mathematics, engineering, veterinary medicine and its related fields. The G.W. Carver High School for the Sciences is designed to challenge each student to think independently and to be resourceful. J. B. Matthews (1894-1966) was a Methodist missionary, college professor, author, lecturer, and prominent conservative spokesman. Collection consists of correspondence, memoranda, statements, speeches, reprints, clippings, broadsides, newsletters, press releases, petitions, and other printed material, chiefly 1930-1969. The principal focus of the collection relates to the work and research of Matthews and his associates in the area of anti-communism, particularly in connection with Matthews' role as Director of Research for the Special Committee on Un-American Activities of the U.S. House of Representatives (1938-1945), Executive Director of the Permanent Subcommittee on Government Operations of the U.S. Senate (1953), and a consultant for John A. Clements Associates. Many of the organizations, newspapers, periodicals, and persons represented in the collection have various leftist, socialist, communist, radical, or pacifist (especially anti-Vietnam War) connections.Individuals represented in the files include Ralph Abernathy, Bella Abzug, Roy Cohn, John Foster Dulles, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Michael Harrington, Alger Hiss, J. Edgar Hoover, Jesse Jackson, John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Coretta Scott King, Joseph Lash, Joseph McCarthy, Carl McIntire, Benjamin Mandel, Richard Nixon, Aristotle Onassis, Lee Harvey Oswald, Linus Pauling, Drew Pearson, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Louis Untermeyer.

Bennett's Professional and Literary Activities are documented by research material consisting of newspaper and magazine articles written by or about Bennett and the Welfare Council of New York, for whom Bennett worked as a journalist; class notes and printed material from the School for Democracy, predecessor of the Jefferson School of Social Science, a Marxist adult education center, and the George Washington Carver School, two controversial schools investigated by the House Un-American Activities Committee for Communist infiltration. Also, typescripts of Bennett's poems and book reviews, 1928-1941. Frank Horne Literary Estate papers consist of typescripts of Horne's published and unpublished poems and letters, 1926-1963. Scrapbooks consist of news clippings, letters, and memorabilia and chronicles of her youth and published work, 1914-1934.
