Manuscript on paper, in various hands, of a collection of 72 satirical verses and songs, primarily commenting on events and political and literary figures in 1688-89. A poem titled The Invasion declares, "O! The year 88 that shall in story be prais'd, for a Parliament sunk, and Six Regiments rais'd;" another is mockingly addressed "For her Royall Highness the Princess Anne of Denmark on the Birth of the Duke at Gloster sung att Hampton Court." A Satyr On The Poets mocks such poets as Wycherley and Shadwell; other items include A Satyr on The Most Eminent Court Ninnys; Advice To The Test-Holders; On The Speakeing Wooden Head; The Lovers Session; New Letter to Julian; A Poem On Matrimony by Sir Charles Sedley; and The Puritans Lecture by Abraham Cowley.

Poems include Rochester's Satyr Against Man, Upon Nothing, and Tunbridge Wells; Dryden's MacFlecknoe; Shadwell's Upon A Late Fallen Poet; and George Etherege's Ephelia to Bajazet. The volume also contains a number of satirical songs, such as A New Ballad To the Tune of Chivey Chace and A New Ballad to an Old Tune Call'd Sage Leafe.

Manuscript, in a single secretary hand, of a collection of several dozen satirical poems and, dos-a-dos, several dozen household recipes. The poetry is mainly political, anti-Catholic, and academic, and includes works of Henry Denne of Trinity College and Joshua Barnes, as well as such titles as On a papist's ghost; On the queen being with child; The man of honour; England's triumph at sea in Sept. 1691; and The prologue to the music speech spoken in the Theatre July 8, 1693, being the time of the act, by Mr Smith of University College. Other items include an epitaph on Thomas Shadwell and a list of anagrams on the word "Parliament." Dos-a-dos are several dozen primarily cooking recipes, for such dishes as barley broth, cherry wine, and lemon cream; as well as instructions on fishing. At the beginning of the manuscript are recipes for making ink and treating chilblains.

Title: English Revenues, Taxes and Expenses, Account Books, 1688-1704.

The account books document the income and expenses of the Crown. The records were used by the Commissioners to examine the financial affairs of the kingdom. The three volumes reveal the extent of the government's civil and military commitments; including entries for payments to Thomas Shadwell, poet laureate; to Sir Christopher Wren; for payments to Charles II's servants, and payments to Isaac Newton. Sources of revenues include taxes on East India goods, hearth money, licenses, customs, and the King's share of condemned tobacco stalks.

Collection of songs, motets and anthems by late 17th and early 18th century British and Continental composers; copied in the early eighteenth century. Some works attributed but most unattributed. 12-13 staves per page; scored for voices and basso continuo (often with figures) and some works also name string or wind instruments. Musical settings are by Henry Hall, John Blow, [Jeremiah] Clarke, Alessandro Stradella, John Allnott, [Giacomo Carissimi], Daniel Purcell and above all Henry Purcell. Many of the songs were taken from works by John Bancroft, Thomas Betterton, William Congreve, Abraham Cowley, John Crowne, Thomas D'Urfey, John Dryden, John Fletcher, [Anthony?] Henley, Sir Robert Howard, Nathaniel Lee, P.A. Motteux, William Mountfort, Katherine Philips, George Powell, Elkanah Settle, Thomas Shadwell, Shakespeare (The tempest, Twelfth night and Timon of Athens), Thomas Southerne, Sir Richard Steele, and Nahum Tate. Also, at the beginning of Part I, excerpt from The merchant of Venice, two odes on the death of Henry Purcell (one by Dryden), and a few medicinal formularies; at the beginning of Part II, lines by John Gilbert of Christ's College, Cambridge.
