The collection consists of copied papers and photographs of Charles O. Farciot. The papers include biographical materials, historical articles concerning the Schieffelin prospecting trip and Farciot's Alaska Photographs, and genealogical materials concerning the Farciot family. The photographs consist of copies of Farciot's original Alaska and Arizona albums (two of each) containing 166 different images, along with copy negatives and contact prints of all of the different Alaska photographs and a selection of those taken in Arizona.

Title: Schieffelin family papers 1779-1992

The papers document the Jacob Schieffelin family of New York and Pennsylvania, and their involvment with land development and real estate in Tioga and Lycoming counties, Pennsylvania, mining in the West, and the founding of Tombstone, Arizona. The papers of Clinton Schieffelin contain information on mining in California and Oregon as well as in Indian affairs in the Rogue River Valley. Edward L. Schieffelin's papers describe silver mining in Arizona, and gold prospecting in Alaska. The collection contains two diaries of Denison A. Lockwood, a friend of the family from Tioga, Pennsylvania. His diaries describe an 1849 voyage on the ship Morrison which he, Jacob, and Jacob's sons, Edward and Alfred, took to California via Cape Horn.

Seventeen original letters written by Edward Schieffelin to his aunt, Mrs. Mary Throckmorton. In his letters Schieffelin describes not only his activities as a prospector - such as prospecting trips, failed attempts to start mines, and his discovery of the Tombstone district in Arizona - but his thoughts and feelings about the changing West and his place in it. Through these letters Schieffelin, an introverted man who disliked cities and was particularly shy around women, provides more than the timeline of his personal events but a window into the mind of a philosophical prospector.

Bushnell, David, b. 1740. David Bushnell papers, 1783-1956 (inclusive).

Miscellanious papers by and about Bushnell. Only two items are in his hand: a letter(1787) claiming land due him as a result of his service in the American Revolution, and a description of a model for a sailing torpedo [1824?]. Papers on his inventions include a letter by Ezra Lee (1815) with an account of Bushnell's submarine and Lee's operation of it in August, 1787 in New York harbor. Also three letters by Joel Abbot (1825)to Bushnell (then known as David Bush) on his attempts to promote Bushnell's naval warning device. Correspondence (1826-1827) between his executor and his heirs, Ezra and Nehemiah Bushnell of Saybrook, Connecticut, includes a final accounting of Bushnell's estate. In the later papers (1881-1956) are four letters to Anson Phelps Stokes with biographical information on Bushnell and publications on his submarine.
