Title: Correspondence, 1907-1933.

A group of letters addressed to Julie Morrow DeForest while attending boarding schools in New York City. The first series of letters, 1907-1920, were written to her primarily by her father, Cornelius, professor and dean at Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee and also by her mother, Roselle. These letters discuss family matters and her father's academic duties at the university. They also contain many comments on political events of the time period. Her father was a fervent Republican (in a Democratic stronghold) in support of Roosevelt and Taft and opposed to Bryan and Wilson.

Included are 60 photographs, approximately half of which show architectural drawings and models of the New York State Capitol at Albany, and views of the Capitol under construction, circa 1860s-1880s. These primarily show the work of Eidlitz, Richardson and Company, who designed the Capitol. Projects of Fuller and Laver and I. G. Perry for the Capitol are also depicted. The rest of the photographs show other projects by Leopold Eidlitz and his firm including the American Exchange Bank, New York City, 1857; Broadway Tabernacle, New York City, 1859; the Continental Bank, New York City, 1856; the Cooper Union, New York City, circa 1886; Dry Dock Savings Bank, New York City, 1875; and Temple Emanu-El, New York City, 1868. Also, unidentified buildings, and buildings by other architects, including Cyrus W. Eidlitz (Association of the Bar of New York, Main Library, New York City, 1895), and Robert H. Robertson (Phillips Presbyterian Church, New York City, 1874). Two original drawings by Eidlitz of Christ Church, St. Louis, Missouri, circa 1859, and a competition design for the New York City Crystal Palace, circa 1852.

Stimson, Henry A. (Henry Albert), 1842-1936. Papers, 1856-1936.

Title: Papers, 1856-1936.

Papers, 1856-1936, consisting mainly of correspondence and drafts of Stimson's sermons and articles, but including some other material, such as clippings and printed ephemera. In addition to large quantities of Stimson's own letters, there are extensive series of letters from his wife, Alice Bartlett Stimson, and his mother, Julia Maria Atterbury Stimson. There are also letters from other members of the Stimson, Atterbury and Bartlett families, letters from unrelated people, both well-known and obscure, and letters of condolence received by the family at Stimson's death. Some letters and printed materials relate to churches of which Stimson was minister: Plymouth Church, Minneapolis, Union Congregational Church, Worcester (Mass.), and Broadway Tabernacle and Manhattan Congregational Church, both in New York City. One folder of letters, a journal, and some printed ephemera describes a journey by wagon train from Salina (Kan.) to Colorado, which Stimson made in 1867, in company with W.E. Chandler, Assistant Secretary of the Treasury. An appraisal and inventory of the Stimsons' household furniture and personal belongings dates from 1923. There are also drafts of articles and speeches by Alice Bartlett Stimson, dealing with cultural and social issues, and material related to the Morning Choral Club in St. Louis and the Sorosis Club in New York City.
