Poetry, beginning with Pope's Essay on Man and including Rape of the Lock and The Universal Prayer. Other verses are by Isaac Watts, Rousseau (in French), and unidentified authors. Also includes a series of arithmetic problems and a few problems in geometry with diagrams and solutions; most are related to mercantile business, for example, "To reduce Pennsylvania money into Pounds Sterling...," "A merchant bought a parcel of jewels...," "A factor bought 4 chests of sugar...." Some of the arithmetic problems are by William Gibbons.

Places represented include Elizabeth and New Brunswick, N.J., Columbus, Ohio, and Savannah, Ga.

The 1827 letter discusses Price's concern that Friends might turn away from the first principles of the Society of Friends in accepting Elias (Hicks') doctrines and mentions Joseph Shipley and James Emlen; in the 1830 letter, Price has spoken to James Mott about a committee to examine the writings of Job Scott; John Comley and Jesse Kersey spoke at their meeting; a new meeting may need to be established because of current large size; pamphlet of William Gibbons against Robert Owen and Frances Wright.

These papers consist of the correspondence of Thomas Gibbons, William Gibbons, and William Heyward Gibbons and date from 1811-1856, with bulk dates of 1811-1817, 1831-1839, and 1850-1856. The letters mostly pertain to business or estate matters, covering such topics as rice and cotton crops; steam boats; shipping concerns; horse breeding, trading, and racing; real estate, property deals and transfers. The letters also include such family issues as inheritance and the settling of the estate of William Gibbons. Correspondents include Josiah Whitney, P.B. Wilcox, F.S. Lathrop, James Anderson, Elias Reed, Ezra Stacy, John Lamar, and Sarah Gibbons McAllister.
