Presentation catalog for a collection of 375 paintings described in a chronological order by its owner, the marquess Alfonso Tacoli Canacci. The works are all by Tuscan artists, and they were meant to document the history of the most renowned school of painting which, he says, may reflect the history of art from its cradle to its full development. In the dedication page, the marquess offers his collection and its manuscript catalog to King Charles IV and his son, the infante Ferdinand VII, duke of Parma. The author mentions his sojourn in Madrid during the reign of Philip V, when he initiated the young Charles IV in the "idea delle belle arti con figure e disegni...secondo il vostro gusto." He believes that his collection, committed to the royal hands, would achieve its main goal: to be offered to the public good through the Royal Academy of Parma. In the 8-page introduction, the author explains the criteria which guided him in establishing the attributions of the paintings in his collection, which, he insists, are all originals.
