Facsimile of a letter from William Workman to Manuel Alvarez, sent from Rancho La Puente. In the letter Workman writes of "barbarians" and the "doublefaced conduct of Old Sculley." He also writes that he and John Rowland are "busily employed in establishing our forms" and that he is enjoying life in California.

The collection consists of photographs, many of which were used as illustrations in Newmark's memoir, "Sixty Years in Southern California." The photographs include the Gerlemann Grocery Store (located at 811-813 Central Ave.) and H. Newmark & Co. (housed in the Arcadia Block), and La Fiesta. The collection also includes many portraits, including those of Dr. Griffin, Isaias W. Hellman, Col. James G. Howard, Don Antonio Coronel, Charles L. Ducommun, Juan Lanfranco, Homer Lea, C.E. Thom, and William Workman. A number of the photographs have C.C. Pierce's stamp on the verso.

This is an invoice made out by William Workman for Dr. Gelcich's visit to Rancho La Puente. It includes fees for the doctor's visit, a consultation with Workman's son-in-law Francis Pliny F. Temple, and medication.
