Meyner; selected files, 1949 and 1959-1968, as Essex County Prosecutor; personal correspondence, 1970-1973, while a superior court judge; gubernatorial campaign files, 1973 and 1977, relating to both the primary and general elections; selected files, 1973-1982, as Governor of New Jersey; speeches, 1956-1982; programs, 1942-2006, chiefly from events attended by Byrne (often as a speaker); personal correspondence, 1944-2003, largely comprised of thank-you letters, invitations and congratulatory letters sent to Byrne, including letters from political figures and celebrities; subject files and personal miscellany, 1941-2006, including Byrne's published writings and partial documentation of his service as a navigator in the Army Air Forces, as chairman of the board of the Intercontinental Life Insurance Company and as president of the New Jersey Board of Public Utility Commissioners; photographs, 1928-2000, extensively documenting Byrne's life, especially his activities as a public official and his participation in charitable events; several audiovisual recordings, 1959-1974 and undated, in the form of audiotape, cine film and videotape; certificates and proclamations, 1951-2000, relating to Byrne; editorial cartoons and artwork, 1973-2002, chiefly depicting Byrne; and several plaques, 1974-2004. Among the topics documented in the papers, but seldom extensively, are the initiation of a state income tax, preservation of the Pinelands, the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority and overseas trade missions on behalf of New Jersey. Subjects documented primarily through press clippings include the Newark riot trials in 1967, nullification of New Jersey's death penalty in 1971 and the opening of the first Atlantic City casino in 1978. Correspondents represented by three or more letters sent to Byrne include: Philip Alampi, Archibald S. Alexander, William G. Bowen, William T. Cahill, Jimmy Carter, Richard J.
