Merian C. Cooper papers, 1921-1977

Title: Merian C. Cooper papers 1921-1977

The Merian C. Cooper papers cover virtually every aspect of Cooper's life and his varied careers. The papers provide valuable information on documentary and feature motion picture production in the United States from the mid-1920s through the early 1950s, as well as information on world exploration, the United States Air Force (particularly during World War II), and early television. Several Cooper projects that never came to fruition are also documented, especially his unproduced film biography of Lieutenant General Claire C. Chennault of Flying Tiger fame. These projects, commended in the 1950s, represent Cooper's efforts to stay active in the entertainment business. The papers, for the most part, are housed in standard archival document cases. The designations mean oversized boxes for maps, broadsides, large photographs, and certain publications.

Included are legal agreements, synopses for "The Lost World"; an adaptation of "The Lost World" by Charles A. Logue from Doyle's book; a plan for production, including possible actors; publicity materials for "The Ghost of Slumber Mountain" and "Along the Moonbeam Trail"; legal materials relating to the lawsuits between CCC, John D. Williams, Watterson D. Rothacker and Willis O'Brien (1923-1924); correspondence (1920-1927); newspaper clippings on release of "The Lost World" in 1925; and press releases of Cathrine Curtis' marriage to Joseph S. O'Neil in 1924.
