Meyerhoff, Lenore P. (Lenore Pancoe), 1927-1988. Lenore P. Meyerhoff papers, 1919-2001 and undated.
Title:
Lenore P. Meyerhoff papers, 1919-2001 and undated.
Series I: Maryland Health and Higher Educational Facilities Authority, 1970-1983, and undated contains the acceptance of Meyerhoff's resignation from the commission in 1983; applications received for the Executive Director's position; correspondence, meeting minutes, by-laws, compensation information, and declarations. Series II: Memorials, 1988-1989, contains cards, contribution lists, resolutions of sympathy from the Maryland House of Delegates and Senate, condolence letters, materials about a memorial concert by the BSO, plaques and other memorial plans, and "Special Letters", so labeled by her family, received by them after her death. The family kept these papers separately, and to maintain original order, they have not been included in Series IV (Personal), which contains other papers relating to her death. Series III: NFIC, 1973-1987 and undated, contains her papers about the National Foundation of Ileitis and Colitis, including information about fundraising, various chapters and chapter activities, the executive committee, correspondence, grants, conferences, officers, medical information about Crohn's disease and other digestive diseases, speeches, doctor lists, and individuals who were active in the organization. Due to the sheer volume of information regarding this organization, it has been separated from other philanthropic materials found in Series V (Philanthropy). Series IV: Personal, 1947-2001 and undated, includes an address book, invitations to weddings, birthday parties, and a bar mitzvah, home decorating materials, including invoices, catalogs, and correspondence, letters from friends and family, newspaper clippings, travel information, and information about Meyerhoff yachts, together with a skit she wrote before she was married and a ticket to a Purdue-Wisconsin football game in 1947. This series also includes correspondence with individuals, who, while not close friends, had contact with Meyerhoff for reasons that were not explicitly related to philanthropy or politics; as well as funeral eulogies, a death certificate, and obituaries. Copies of resumes and biographies from "Women of Achievement in Maryland History" and "Women of Valor" (a children's book) are also included. Series V: Philanthropy, 1954-1987 and undated, contains information from various organizations to which Meyerhoff donated either her time, money, or both. Also includes information on organizations that solicited the Meyerhoffs for support, although it is sometimes difficult to tell if support was actually provided. Folders are labeled based on the name of the organization seeking or receiving support. Series VI: Politics, 1972-1987 and undated, contains materials, including correspondence, related to local and national Republican politics, fundraising for candidates and groups, political events, topics such as Nicaragua, political offices, print media articles related to politics, and individuals' campaign information, which is organized alphabetically based on candidate's last name. Series VII: U.N. work, 1982-1986 and undated includes materials related to Meyerhoff's time as a citizen appointee to the U.N. Materials are organized by type of document (e.g., memo, brochure, journal) or by the name of the committee or topic (e.g., General Assembly or Middle East). The material in this series extends beyond her tenure at the U.N., which began in Sept. 1983. The reason for the discrepancy is that she continued to travel on behalf of the U.N., typically with Ambassador Jeane J. Kirkpatrick, with whom she became close friends. Also, some dated material was created for U.N. workers prior to her 1983 arrival; therefore, the dates of several documents precede her tenure. Series VIII: Photographs, 1919-1987 and undated, contains family photographs of Meyerhoff beginning with her childhood and extending throughout her life. Includes family photographs, photographs of political and philanthropic events, and travel photographs. Photos are arranged chronologically. When more than one folder contains the same date, the folders are then organized alphabetically within that date. Undated material is arranged alphabetically following the dated material. Descriptive titles explain the contents of each folder. The family has provided dates for the photos.
