Also included are watercolours, sketches, and photographs plus typescripts, with holograph corrections, for "Max", "Quiet Days in Clichy", Miller's preface to "Hollywood Hallucination" by Parker Tyler, "This Is My Answer", and "Just Wild About Harry".

The collection consists of correspondence from Durrell to Alfred Perlès, William Woods, John Lehmann, Peter Russell, Tambimuttu (LD's notes on Dylan Thomas in the form of a letter), and others; also included are a corrected proof of "Balthazar"(sent to Perlès); a sketch (1959) by Eve Miller of Henry Miller, Alfred Perlès and Durrell; and, a watercolour by "Oscar Epfs" (pseud. of L. Durrell) done for a record sleeve "Songs of Greece" plus a Xmas card reproduced from the painting in 1964. Alfred Perlès later changed his name to Alfred Barret, and was often addressed by Durrell and Miller as Joe or Joey in their letters to him.

This collection contains correspondence that reflects the close friendship and working relationship of Gérald Robitaille and Henry Miller, as well as the subsequent friendships Robitaille had with Alfred Perlès, Lawrence Durrell, and others of Miller's friends. The letters in this collection are almost entirely from Miller to Robitaille, with occasional letters from Eve Miller (Henry Miller's fourth wife) and Lawrence Durrell to Robitaille. They are arranged chronologically, and comprise a unique perspective on areas of Miller's life otherwise unseen.

Title: Papers, 1942-1977.

Comprise correspondence, diaries, notebooks containing untitled poems, a book of sketches, and manuscripts of Manning's major poetical works. The secret sea is represented by several versions, including a version set to music by Denis ApIvor entitled Chorales. Twenty-eight diaries record daily events from 1957-77, and include poetry and drawings. Much of the correspondence simply thanks Manning for sending copies of his poetry, but letters from Henry Miller encourage him to write prose and say "those things which seem incommunicable," while letters from Mario Praz discuss the influence of Borges and T.S. Eliot on Manning's poetry.

While a student at Hofstra University, Kahaner wrote to Miller after secretly reading a copy of Tropic of Cancer. Miller responded with a postcard followed by numerous letters, friendly and lascivious, with mention of many celebrities, brief comment on works ranging from Shakespeare's writing to The Sound of Music, and advice to Kahaner on personal problems. Miller and Kahaner never met, but spoke frequently on the telephone. The letters make passing reference to, among others: Steve Allen, Ursula Andress, Diane Baker, Jean-Paul Belmondo, Charlie Chaplin, Salvador Dali, Michael Dunn, Lawrence Durell, Ava Gardner, Ben Gazzara, Ben Grauer, Jennifer Jones, Louis Lomax, Lisa Lu, Jeanne Moreau, Alfred Perls̈, Jean Renoir, Elkie Sommer, Inga Stevens, and Rip Torn, and the work of George Grosz, Hermann Hesse, Longsang Rampa, William Shakespeare, and Walt Whitman.

In his correspondence Miller discusses his writing, particularly Tropic of Cancer, publication and distribution difficulties, publicity, his reading and daily activities, his family, financial difficulties, water-colors, and his criticism of the work of others, especially Walter Lowenfels and Aldous Huxley. Of interest are transcripts of letters and reviews regarding his earlier work by Cyril Connolly, Lawrence George Durrell, Thomas Stearns Eliot, Aldous Leonard Huxley, Walter Lowenfels, Sir Desmond McCarthy, Henry Louis Mencken, Anäis Nin, Ezra Loomis Pound, Herbert Read, Collette (Levy) Roberts, Paul Rosenfeld, William Carlos Williams, and George Orwell.
