The collection contains historical and biographical information collected by Edward F. Stratton, curator of the Salem Quarterly Meeting records and librarian of the Friends Society, Salem, Oh. It includes family correspondence of the Walton family, especially letters to Joseph Walton from his siblings and the correspondence of Samuel and Sarah Walton of Stillwater Monthly Meeting. A large number of the earlier letters were sent to Joseph Walton from his sister, Rebecca Walton. Other correspondents include Lydia L. Walton and Mary and Nathan Kite. Topics include family concerns, the Wilburite-Gurneyite controversy in Ohio and related tensions in Philadelphia Yearly Meeting. There are lengthy descriptions of the yearly meetings and meetings for worship with visits by Quaker ministers including Thomas B. Gould, William Evans, and Ezra Comfort.

Original records are maintained at the Olney Friends Boarding School in Barnesville, Ohio.

The collection contains historical and biographical information collected by Edward F. Stratton about the Maule, Stratton, Williams, and related Ohio Quaker families, especially those involved in separations in Ohio Yearly Meeting. Of particular interest are Joshua Maule's diaries and his correspondence concerning the Wilburite-Gurneyite and Maulite (Primitive) separations and the Williams family correspondence and diaries written while they were teaching at schools for freed blacks in Mississippi and Texas (1867-1876). Correspondents include Joshua Maule, Thomas B. and Martha S. Gould, Hannah Hall, and Charles Evans. Miscellaneous Society of Friends records include advices, sermons, a report of the Committee on Indian Concerns, Baltimore Yearly Meeting with a letter to "Brother Quakers" from Sawhe asking for aid (1804), an account of a conversation between Thomas Gould and Joseph John Gurney (1838), a letter from a Civil War conscientious objector, and accounts of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting.

Collection of papers relating to the Society of Friends in Ohio (Orthodox). Included are communications and epistles received by Ohio Yearly Meeting from the Yearly Meetings in Philadelphia, New York, and Maryland; minutes and other records of the Stillwater, Short Creek, and Redstone Monthly and Quarterly Meetings, marriage announcements, certificates, and other miscellaneous records, including a proposal submitted to the Yearly meeting for establishing labor schools (ca. 1840). The collection also contains some personal letters discussing religious practice, theology, history, child rearing, etc. Also included are: an epistle from Women Friends Meeting in London to Women Friends Yearly Meeting in Philadelphia (1789), two addresses to a "Spiritual Improvement Society", by Edward Hoops (1840), two short memoirs of the underground railroad and Quaker abolitionists, and a copy of: Diamond, August, Levi Coffin, the friend of the slave / published for the Friends' Tract Association (London : Headley Bros.; New York : Friends' Book & Tract Committee, c1915). The collection also contains manuscript "Memoirs of Rachel E. Paterson, 1828-1869." Rachel E. Paterson (b. 1810) was a Quaker preacher, daughter of James Edgerton and Anne Hall, members of Stillwater Monthly Meeting (Orthodox). The manuscript consists of copies of letters that she exchanged with her family.
