Johnston, Robert McCandlish, Matthew Fontaine Maury, George Gordon Meade, Charles Minnigerode, William Cabell Rives, Francis Henney Smith, John Reuben Thompson, John Tyler, Henry A. Washington, and Henry A. Wise. Subjects include Ewell's hiring as professor of mathematics and as acting president, the fire of 1859, William and Mary during the Civil War, raising funds in the United States and England to restore the college following the war, the possible removal of the college from Williamsburg, the suspension of the college and its re-opening as a normal school to train male teachers.

Also include letter, 17 May 1795, from Ralph Wormeley to Corbin Washington, Westmoreland County, Va., regarding financial matters; and letter, 3 August 1821, from Lawrence Augustine Washington to Benjamin and Thomas Kite, Philadelphia, Pa., ordering a laxative preparation as well as two books. Olmstead that all the Jefferson letters from Joel Barlow were at the Dept. of State and that Congress employed Henry A. Washington to select almong them for publication. In a letter, 1855 March 2, Henry A. Washington informs Olmstead that the Jefferson-Barlow correspondence is at the Roll Office in Washington.
