This is a bound volume of photostat copies of an unpublished and incomplete typewritten version of Gene L. Gardner's book titled, "An inspired principle and a remarkable lady." It covers the life of Mary Cox Lee, from her childhood growing up in a polygamous household to her work as a midwife in Utah and Nevada. The text describes Mary's initial struggle with entering into a polygamous marriage, her experiences avoiding the authorities, her emotions in seeing her husband approximately once a year, and her efforts in making a home and life for herself and her children as a widow and midwife. In addition to the text there are four reproductions of photographs of Mary.
