Davenport, Charles Benedict, 1866-1944. Cold Spring Harbor Papers, ca. 1903-1940.

There are two series within these papers, the first being Davenport's communications with the Carnegie administrators. There are also accounts, reports, etc. concerning financial matters, publications, salaries, and included is interesting material relative to the early history of Cold Spring Harbor labs (there is similar material in Davenport's own papers, B\D27). There is voluminous correspondence with the Carnegie presidents, Robert Woodward and John Merriam. Series 2 is larger and contains records relative to the numerous professional assistants who worked under Davenport, both permanent and part-time. The folders contain letters, reports, expenditures/budgets, research plans, bibliographies, etc. Included in this series are records of the separate labs, the Station for Experimental Evolution and the Eugenics Record Office. There is also significant material on the Bermuda Biological Station. Additionally, this series contains material relating to the various professional organizations to which Davenport belonged, such as the American Eugenics Society, Eugenics Research Association, Nassau County Association, and the National Committee for Mental Hygiene.
