Anna Letitia Barbauld, née Aikin, English poet and essayist. Her first book of poems, published before her marriage, was a critical and popular success, but she came to be better known for her works on the teaching of infants. She was among the circle of radical intellectuals gathered around her publisher, Joseph Johnson, which also included the likes of Joanna Baillie, George Dyer, Maria Edgeworth, William Godwin, and Henry Crabb Robinson.
Anna Letitia Barbauld, née Aikin, English poet and essayist.
English author.
Anna Letitia Aikin Barbauld was a respected English author and educator. She and her family were Dissenters, and their strong beliefs and awkward social position were integral to her development as a writer. She and her husband ran a school, and she also found time to write poetry for children and adults, hymns, influential social and political tracts, and literary biography, and to serve as a literary critic and editor. She sometimes wrote with her brother, John Aikin.

Most of the items were originally gathered by Barton Orville Aylesworth, a biographer and an autograph collector in Fort Collings Colorado. Comments on the difference between the conduct of the executors of Mr. and Mrs. Garrick and talks of the influence of Mr. Wallis over Garrick's drafting of his will. Refers to the story of Garrick's gift of the buckles he wore in Don Felix and quotes Mrs. Barbauld's distich on the subject ("Thy buckles, o Garrick, thy friends may now use / But no mortal hereafter shall stand in thy shoes.")
