Manuscript, in multiple hands, of a collection of 35 poems on such subjects as death and mourning, often set in exotic cultures. Unattributed poems include Fragment. Written at Arrochar, September 1824; A Persian Fable; and A Mother's Dream. The volume also contains a copy of The Mother's Lament for Her Son by Caroline Anne Bowles; Rebecca's Hymn by Sir Walter Scott; excerpts from several poems by Thomas Moore, including Nourmahal, From 'The Light of the Haram' and From 'The Fire-Worshippers', and many excerpts from Byron's works, including Manfred; The Giaour; and Lines Addressed by Lord Byron to his Wife Soon After Their Marriage, Never Published.

Commonplace book of Edith-Althea Echlin, a cousin of George Francis Savage-Armstrong. Born in Co. Down, the daughter of Rev. John Robert Echlin, Edith-Althea married Rev. George Henry Joy in 1869 and spent the majority of her life in England. This volume contains poems copied both before and after her marriage, and includes works by Wordsworth, Marianne Farningham, F.S. Wilson, Caroline Bowles Southey and at least one original poem written by her prospective husband before their marriage.

The collection contains an issue of the Boston Commercial Gazette for November 18, 1823, containing a review of Coleridge's "Remorse," an announcement that Lord Byron has landed in Cephalonia, and an extract from Thomas Clarkson's preface to "Thoughts on the necessity of improving the condition of the slaves in the British Colonies with a view to their ultimate emancipation" together with a review of the Rev. George Wilson Bridges' pamphlet "A view from Jamaica" which answered William Wilbeforce's "Appeal in behalf of the Negro Slaves in the West Indies. The collection also contains an album of seven watercolors, chiefly of the Isle of Wight, 1818, by Caroline Bowles Southey. In the album each watercolor is labeled on the verso of the preceding or opposite page by the artist (with the exception of the first watercolor), and on the verso of the same page by an unidentified hand (i.e. the two labels do not match). In addition the artists has supplied a lengthy paragraph on the history of Brading Church with two tombstone inscriptions. All pages are loose. There is also an undated note from Cecil and Violette Lang giving the album to McGann. The collection also contains a manuscript poem "The dead and the living," circa 1840 b L. Louisa Kerr with illustrations by Caroline Moseley, about a recent incident in Cornwall. The collection also contains a letter from Christina Rossetti to Mrs. Heimann, 1853 November 24, on her family's health and school. The collection also contains an undated fair copy of "the sword" by Lettie Elizabeth Landon and a fair copy of "Lady Byron's reply to Lord Byron's farewell." The collection also contains two reproduction postcards of originals announcing publication of books by Anthony Trollope.

Papers include letters to Thomas Philips Lamb containing light verse and commenting on the French Revolution, Southey's marriage, and his literary aspirations. There are typed copies of letters to Southey's daughter and to Caroline Bowles, later his second wife (originals in the Bristol Libraries); and other letters concerning the publication of Southey's "Joan of Arc," his daily work routine, and the study of law and foreign languages. One volume (11 leaves) contains literary notes by Southey, a letter by him referring to his History of Brazil, and one by Caroline (Bowles) Southey concerning her husband's health; an engraving by Nash of Southey in his study; and a small portrait. The other volume is a handwritten copy of Southey's poem "Oliver Newman."
