Letters, 1784-1844, of Timothy Pickering of Philadelphia, his children, Henry and John, his sister Rebecca, and other Pickering family members regarding business and family matters. Correspondence of Timothy Pickering includes an 1811 letter to William Stedman discussing Jefferson's draft of the Declaration of Independence, and copies of articles submitted to the Essex Gazette, 1769-70, signed "A Military Citizen." Correspondence of John Pickering of Salem, Mass., concerns legal, legislative and personal matters regarding his position as Boston City Solicitor. Correspondents include Theron Metcalf, Harrison Gray Otis, Theophilus Parsons, and Josiah Quincy. Also included in the collection is the diary, 1775-1776 (with accounts from 1767-78), of John Jenks of Salem, Mass., recording his observations and movements following the Battle of Lexington, the Battle of Bunker Hill, and Gen. John Thomas' assault on Quebec during the Revolution.

Letters (with typescripts) to and from William Stedman, U.S. Senator from Lancaster, Mass., with his wife, Almy (Ellery) and his children. Stedman's letters from Washington home to his wife relate to family business and news of Congress and Washington. Other Stedman family letters discuss schooling and well-being of the children and the death of his son Christopher E. while at sea. Stedman's will and a few genealogical notes are also included.
