Comprises what are probably the earliest drafts of Hervey's most famous works, apparently not previously known to their many editors and publishers, containing many corrections, alterations, additions, and deletions; also, several pages of Greek New Testament text, being excerpts from Luke 1, Matthew 1, and John's Gospel 1 on the Incarnation, and many pages of Hervey's shorthand, which has not yet been deciphered, but appears to include some English, Greek, Latin, and Hebrew words and letters with Biblical references interspersed. The text includes six English manuscript poems, some of these excerpts from Milton and Pope, others probably Hervey's own compositions.

Manuscript, in multiple hands, of a collection of about 35 verses, riddles, and prose pieces by various authors. Poems include On the Death of the Princess Charlotte; The Negro's Complaint by William Cowper; War Poem by Robert Southey; and numerous selections from James Hervey's Meditations; as well as a lighthearted piece titled "The Card Club, a Tale Dedicated & Addressed to that Honourable Society." Prose pieces include a diary excerpt recording the routine events of a woman's day, purported to be "a part of that journal of the celebrated Elizabeth Woodville, previous to her marriage with Lord Grey...This was extracted from an ancient manuscript preserved in Drummond Castle;" a letter consoling the recipient for the loss of her brother; and an excerpt from the Spectator. The volume also contains a page of riddles and a parodic dinner menu which includes "The Divine Part of Man Fried."

Manuscript, in a single hand, of a collection of about 150 entries of verse, hymns, sermons, and religious anecdotes. Many of the hymns are by Stevens; others are by Isaac Watts and Phillis Wheatley. The manuscript also contains a funeral sermon on the interment of Miss Ann Williams; parting words from a parent to his dying daughter; an anecdote concerning James Hervey's admonition to a lady who loved the stage; another by Jonathan Edwards on his own wickedness; and other religious anecdotes by Timothy Rogers, Thomas Bradbury, George Whitefield, Abraham Booth, Philip Doddridge, Selina Hastings, countess of Huntingdon, John Milton, and James Thomson.
