Personal and professional correspondence of Dawn Powell, including she received from publishers, agents, admirers of her work, friends, family and others. Among the cataloged correspondents are: Malcolm Cowley (4 letters); John Dos Passos (57 letters); Ernest Hemingway (1 letter); Gerald and Sara Murphy (23 letters); Mark Schorer (2 letters); Edmund Wilson (15 letters); and Powell's own letters to her family. There are drafts of her playscripts and drafts and related materials for her novel "The Golden Spur". There are 4 scrapbooks of her husband, Joseph R. Gousha, recording the plays he saw in Pittsburg from 1910 to 1914, and 4 journals of her son. Additional personal and professional papers of Dawn Powell (correspondence, manuscripts, diaries, and misc. materials) are on deposit with this library and will be added to the collection in the future.

Correspondence, card files, financial papers, articles, speeches, pamphlets, leaflets, scrapbooks, clippings, photos, tapes, and a film depict aspects of Rankin's life. Best documented is her vote against U.S. entry into WWII and the consequent public reaction, though both terms in congress are covered. Other correspondence reflects her involvement in the suffrage movement, Vietnam War protest, election reform, and the women's movement, with information on the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom and the Jeannette Rankin Brigade, also called the Jeannette Rankin Rank and File. Clippings comprised over half of the collection; most were about Rankin, with a few by her. Family correspondence includes letters from her sisters Mary (Rankin) Bragg, Grace (Rankin) Kinney, and birth control advocate Edna (Rankin) McKinnon. There are almost no personal letters by Rankin in the collection, and no early papers by or about her.
